Scientists from the Prehistorical
Arheology Institute together with their coleagues from the
Bulgarian Academy of Science have recntly found a very important
place where people lived a long time ago.
The
area is situated on the south scirts of Sredna Gora mountain,
about 50 km North-East from Plovdiv,
near the town of Chirpan. In ancient times it was a main
station on the shortest way between Europe and the Near East.
As a Roman military road, it
connected the important towns of Singidinum(Belgrad), Serdika(Sofia)
and Adrianopolis(Odrin) with Konstantinopol(Istanbul) the
capital of the East-Roman and later the Byzantium Empire.
Even today this route is important
for the transit economical traffic of Europe.
The settling of this area begun
far in the V Millenium BC(The early Stone Age). This happened
thanks to natural resources that this place gave to people
- fat lands, big amount of mineral water, the temperate climate
of the Mediterranian.
The village existed almost
6000 years without interruptions until the XIII c. AD. The
route of the ancient way defined its constantly changing history.
Numerous travellers, legions, conquerors, crusaders, merchants,
bandits and more and more settlers seaked the the richness
of this area.
