Petya Dubarova - forever 17 year old
Born in Bourgas, Bulgaria
on April 25th, 1962, she left this world on December
4th, 1979. Only seventeen...
"Born in a happy family", wrote Petya to a
friend. She loved her mother, she called her a Fairy,
and dedicated her poems.
"As the nightingales are singing in the wood,
my mother's voice is singing.
As the live grass is waving,
in my mother hopes are in blossom."
She respected her mother very much, because after a
difficult childhood as an orphan Maria Dubarova managed
to get a good education, to become a teacher in literature
at a secondary school. Petya loved also her father Stoyko
Dubarov, who has graduated in a technical school, a
master worker in a Bourgass' factory. A part of her
poetry is dedicated to him.
"Under his brisk eyebrows
eyes are smiling
more clear than the sunrise
and warmer than sun rays"
Her mother and her father brought up her with love,
they discovered at first her talent, burst forth in
ringing rhymes. Then they became gathering the sheets
of paper, the napkins, the booklets on which wrote Petya
and threw out. Thus they saved up most of her poems
and tales. She grew up inspired of their encouragements
and model of hard-working, honest and conscientious
people.
As a little girl Petya Dubarova was interested in everything.
She hurried up to learn and test everything. Sometimes
this curiosity brought her bitterness. Petya dedicated
poems and tales to birds and animals, which she loved
very much.
Two years and a half old Petya learned the picture alphabet.
When she was three she spelt the newspapers' headlines.
Two years later she took up books from the library club.
Since her short life, Petya read many books and went
over her beloved ones.
School was a holiday for her. She was an excellent student
at the English Language School, having a command of
some languages. She wrote fine works about her school
life. Lessons was art for her. Everything, learned at
school she transformed in thoughts and emotions of her
own - homeworks, tales and rhymes. Sensitive, cordial,
poetic in her relationship with everyone, she praised
friendship the most. She was honest, frank and brave.
She always sought mutual trust. Everybody loved and
respected her because of her talent, honesty and humanity.
Many of her poems got published and praised by her teachers
and notorious poets. Nevertheless she stayed modest,
helped her classmates in literature and stood upon their
rights. Thus they liked her more, wanted to read her
works, sought her friendship and love. Not many of them
envied her, but she hated the most envy, malice and
pettiness.
Petya Dubarova was strong, proud, modest and humane
person. She was always fulfilled with vigour, high spirits
and laughter. She sang and played the guitar very well.
The young poetess loved music, good movies, dancing
and had a lust for life. Though her heart bled to every
injustice. So she committed a suicide because of unfair
punishment at school. She left this world, only 17 in
1979.
